Our Aim/Purpose
To aid an impoverished local school in Shanghai, China.
Our Message
We need to inform people about this issue because education is a human right, and developing countries can't avdance their society without education of their people. Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another. Gilbert K. Chesterton
Our Short Term and Long Term Plans
STAGE 1: PREPARATION (Short Term)
Researching more of this topic:
• Education for All in general
• Education quality in Shanghai
• Organizations working on education in Shanghai and China
• Where we can contribute to the process or sponsor a child
Connecting with a local school:
• Finding one through UPS community service workers, teachers, or other sources
• Talking with the principal, vice principal, or supervisor of the school about
-What supplies are needed
-By what means is it convenient for the eighth grade to visit the school or for them to visit our school
STAGE 2: COMMUNICATION (Short Term)
Raising money through selling:
• T-shirts decorated with sharpies, supporting our campaign
• Pastries such as cakes, muffins, brownies, etc.
• Jewelry and other handmade crafts
Raising awareness to eighth graders and the rest of the school community through:
• A 45-minute presentation
• A Wiki
• Posters
Planning a successful field trip for eighth graders at their school to come to ours or for eighth graders at our school to come to theirs by:
• Speaking with Shanghai American School’s supervisor, principal, or vice principal and eighth-grade teachers about
-Permission
-Transportation
-Time
STAGE 3: IMPLEMENTATION (Short Term)
On the day of the field trip or visit we will:
• Take on both moral and supervising responsibility
• Make sure that everyone is here
• Aid in guiding everyone safely to the buses, making sure again on the buses that everyone is here
Our schedule will go roughly in this order:
• Arrive at school (Either SAS or local school)
• Brief tour of school
• Lunch
• Visit to kids, giving them supplies and doing interactive activities
STAGE 4: CONTINUATION (Long Term)
Continuing this project beyond the field trip by:
• Paying regular visits to the school
• Annually sponsoring a child through an online website
Note to Barbie and Alex:
Hey people!!! I don't know when you guys will be on the wiki again or when you guys are returning from vacation, but we have to have everything on our wiki by the day we get back to school. We don't have much left to do, but Alex get more pics and remember you have to cite them. Barbie just post the local school case study thing under case study; there's a section for it. We also have to get the telephone number of the school. I could send an email to Mr. Z. What's his email? I haven't had him for teacher so I don't know how to spell his last name and what his first name is.
